CAN YOU HELP US?

Please take a minute to read this important message:

building the ARCIn my previous message, I told how at age 15, while taking care of lawns at an apartment complex, God gave me a vision: I saw a map of the Soviet Union in the sky and a voice said: "Remember this apartment complex plan - you'll build it when you're an old man." After serving behind the Iron Curtain and in Russia for 20 years, leading a small mission support agency for 20 years, and teaching online in Russian seminaries for 10 years, I'm now in my 80s, so I guess I'm old enough to start this new project!

I wrote earlier about our *free* 1-year, 6-course training program "Social Ministry of the Church" in English and Russian to train people how to care for the sick and disabled. The purpose of these courses is to prepare people for "Building the ARC" - the Agape Restoration Community - a Christian housing co-op with a built-in community room/chapel. All of the units will be wheelchair-accessible because of the ageing of the "Baby Boomer" generation: 76 million people born between 1946 and 1965 have reached or are reaching retirement age (10,000/day = 3,650,000/year!), at which time 45% of these people are already disabled.

And as they continue aging, 70% of them will become disabled and require accessible housing or home healthcare before they pass away. This is a huge social concern: 70% of 3,650,000 people = 2,550,000 disabled people per year for the next 20 years = over 50 million people! About 2/3 of all retirees depend on Social Security for over half of their income, and about 1/3 of retirees depend on it for 90% to 100% of their income. But can they continue depending on it? Medicare will be insolvent by 2031 and Social Security will reach insolvency by 2033, the trustees of these funds report, so they will have to cut 'way back: they won't be able to care for all these people at current levels. We need to "Think Forward" ... starting now!

Our basic problem, however, is that like most people, we don't want to think about such things until it's too late. Psychologists call this "the normalcy bias" - our brains work in terms of past experience, so we assume that everything will simply keep on going on "just like normal" as it has in the past. As King David wrote - "Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. But man, despite his riches, doesn't endure. He is like the animals that perish" (Psalm 49:11-12). In everyday layman's language it's called "whistling past the graveyard." We don't want to think about unpleasant things such as growing old, disability, and death... so when it happens, we're unprepared and too feeble to respond adequately, thus we become a burden on the government. But some states are already passing laws allowing euthanasia and assisted suicide to conserve public finances. So it's imperative that we as Christians be proactive and retake our social ministry responsibilities! [READ MORE...]

Pray for people – including yourself – to prepare for the coming tsunami of elderly and disabled people who need our care!

A Personal Note: Simon, who runs the Vision Complex Orphanage and School in Tanzania, sent us this photo of their rice crop, but just a few days later, he spoke to us from the hospital where he is very sick with malaria. A total of 8 people – mostly children – have malaria there, due to extreme rainfall and flooding, destroying many houses. Vision Complex itself is safe on high ground, but the surrounding roads were flooded and muddy. They need money for medicine to fight malaria, but our nonprofit is nearly broke. If you can, please use our "Donate" link to give, and designate it for "Vision Complex" – thanks in advance!

NEXT, THE NEWS:

2. PUSH BUILDS TO REVERSE COVID-ERA ABORTION PILL RULE
from: Daily Wire

SYNOPSIS: CRC Research for the 85 Fund, shows that a majority of Americans support reinstating in-person doctor visits for accessing abortion pills. Over two-thirds of Americans (67%), including Democrats (63%), support the FDA requiring in-person visits. Pro-life advocates are using the poll results to pressure the FDA to revoke the Covid-era policy allowing mail-order abortion pills.

Pro-life leaders argue that mail-order abortions have contributed to rising abortion rates. The article cites examples of potential negative consequences of mail-order pills, including coercion and legal issues. States like Louisiana have sued the FDA to reverse the mail-order regulations, with Rosalie Markezich joining the lawsuit. Marjorie Dannenfelser from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America emphasizes the public health and safety concerns and the need for a return to in-person doctor visits.

Thank the Lord for this increase in efforts to ban the mail-order distribution of abortion pills to kill unborn babies.

3. UKRAINIAN INSTITUTE OF NATIONAL REMEMBRANCE CALLS ON UNESCO TO EXCLUDE RUSSIA
from: RISU

SYNOPSIS: The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance (UINR) is urging the international community to expel Russia from UNESCO. The UINR cites Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukrainian cultural heritage sites as the primary reason. The UINR is calling for signatures on an open letter to be sent to UNESCO and international partners.

Russia's actions are viewed as a deliberate attempt to erase Ukrainian national memory and cultural identity. The attacks have damaged over 1,600 cultural heritage sites, including architectural monuments like the Bernardine Monastery Complex. This is a continuation of Russian attempts to destroy Ukraine's national cultural identity, as in previous looting and destruction of Ukrainian museums, etc.

Pray for a fair peace agreement in Ukraine and for the preservation of Ukraine's sovereignty and cultural identity.

4. A LEGAL, LETHAL TORPEDO
from: American Life League

SYNOPSIS: This article compares the abortion pill, mifepristone, to a naval torpedo, emphasizing its deadly nature. The author criticizes the widespread availability and popularity of the abortion pill, viewing it as a sad reflection of society. Laws restricting or banning the pill are being enacted in some states, with Josh Hawley introducing a bill for a hotline for women injured by it.

The article highlights the potential dangers of the pill, including health risks for mothers, and mentions the existence of abortion pill reversal methods. The author accuses the mainstream media of not reporting the negative side effects of the pill, citing a study linking it to a higher risk of brain tumors. The author calls for the truth to be revealed and for the end of the "cabal dedicated to killing the preborn."

Intercede for expecting mothers to realize they are already mothers of a living human being inside them, and to avoid yielding to the noisy crowd of pro-death baby killers.

5. ED DEPARTMENT MAY OFFLOAD SPECIAL EDUCATION SOON, ADVOCATES WARN
from: Disability Scoop

SYNOPSIS: Advocates are concerned the U.S. Department of Education may offload special education programs. The Education Department has been transferring responsibilities to other agencies, with rumors suggesting the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) could be next. The National Down Syndrome Congress issued an alert, citing potential moves to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or the Department of Labor.

The move is reportedly based on the idea that special education is “medical”. Advocates like Stephanie Smith Lee warn moving IDEA oversight to HHS risks reviving an outdated medical model of disability and weakening education coordination. The Education Department spokesperson, Savannah Newhouse, said the agency is "evaluating potential partnerships." The underlying assumption is that the government is the answer to all of society's problems.

Pray that churches and other faith-based ministries will step up to the task of rehabilitation and restoration of persons with disabilities.

6. GENETICIST ANNE BRUNET EXPLORES THE SCIENCE OF AGEING
from: Stanford Report

SYNOPSIS: Anne Brunet, a genetics professor, explores the science of ageing, its molecular mechanisms, and potential interventions. Ageing is characterized by multiple hallmarks, including epigenomic changes, decline in nutrient sensing, and inflammation, which collectively increase disease susceptibility. Lifestyle choices, such as dietary restriction and exercise, can significantly influence lifespan and health. The concept of "reversing" ageing involves rejuvenating biological markers, and research is ongoing to achieve this in the brain.

Brunet's lab utilizes the short-lived African killifish to study ageing processes and identify potential interventions. The biggest open question in ageing research is understanding the complete mechanisms and translating them for human application. Brunet's lab is focused on discovering new mechanisms that drive ageing, using longitudinal filming of animals to understand the dynamics of ageing.

Praise the Lord for this research on the science of ageing, so that we can be both compassionate toward others and proactive for ourselves as the world's population ages.

7. COGNITIVE DEBT, AI AND THEIR LINK TO DISABILITY
from: Disabled World

SYNOPSIS: This article explores the concept of cognitive debt - a term used in both clinical neuroscience and technology research to describe how certain mental habits and behavioral patterns can quietly erode cognitive capacity over time. From repetitive negative thinking to the neural consequences of outsourcing reasoning to AI tools, cognitive debt raises urgent questions about brain health, disability, and the hidden costs of modern life that we are only beginning to understand.

Cognitive debt is the gradual erosion of mental capacity that results from patterns of thought or behavior that either deplete cognitive resources without productive return or allow critical thinking skills to weaken through disuse. In the context of technology and artificial intelligence, cognitive debt describes the long-term cost to a person's independent thinking ability that comes from habitually offloading reasoning and problem-solving to AI tools instead of performing those tasks themselves. Cognitive capacity is not fixed but is built or diminished by how we use our minds over time.

Thank God that people are beginning to understand that smartphones and AI don't make you smarter, but stupider.

NOW, OUR VIEWS:

THE AFTERMATH OF DESTRUCTION IN POST-SOVIET COUNTRIES

I'm too old for socialism[This is an update of an article I wrote 4 years ago, in April 2022, just after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The horrible insanity of human death and suffering there is beyond words.]

I've lived 22+ years in Central Europe during the communist era and in Russia during and after the collapse of the USSR, when my wife and I experienced ONE MILLION PERCENT HYPERINFLATION in Russia, people literally dying of heart attacks while waiting in long lines to exchange their "old Rubles" for "new Rubles" before the old Rubles expired and became worthless. We've seen people break down the doors of a grocery store when milk was being delivered in order to buy it before it's gone. I keep my ration card for tobacco and vodka (although I don't smoke or drink) as a reminder of that era. It looks like that era is about to return to Russia.

These days, all sorts of mostly ignorant people are spouting all sorts of conspiracy theories and self-blaming explanations for the war in Ukraine. After spending much of the past 65 years studying about, learning their languages and living at a subsistence level along with the masses in those countries, I think that I have a fairly good understanding of what is taking place there and why: The Loss of Internalized Morality.

In a Christian-based society, parents stay married tor life, teach their children basic virtues such as "be kind," "tell the truth, don't tell lies," "respect other people's property," etc. Even though parents might not personally believe in Christ, they have absorbed this from our culture. But increasingly, this is fading away even in our western post-Christian culture.

In the Soviet Union, however, such basic virtues were abandoned in the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, so people felt they had to be ruthless, lie, and steal simply in order to survive. Even after the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, people would show up late and leave early at their state-supplied jobs for less than a dollar per day so they could earn real money at their "real jobs," What we consider to be normal business practices such as a fair day's pay for a fair day's work, honoring one's contractual word, selling at a fair markup, paying taxes, etc. – these were thrown out the window when private business was declared to be "exploitation" – criminal activity.

The result of criminalizing business was that only criminals engaged in business: killing, stealing, practicing deceit, making enormous profit, and not paying taxes. Even since 1991's collapse Soviet Union when private business was legalized, the criminal mindset continues to dominate business and private ethics.

CAN YOU SPARE A CUP OF COFFEE FOR OUR MINISTRY?

If just 5% of the people who see this would give $5 per month (just 17ў per day!) – the average cost of a coffee at Starbucks – we could cover our operating expenses and do much more in spreading the word, supporting orphans, and providing accessible housing for the disabled. So please DONATE ...thanks!
